10 Ways to Manage Your Financial Concerns

How to Forget About Financial Concern

Financial worries can literally destroy your physical, emotional, and mental well being if you allow it to control you.

Although it is difficult not to let it control you, it is important to find ways to forget about your financial concerns if it is keeping you up at night and interfering with your everyday life.

When you worry, you put unnecessary stress on yourself. This can be very unhealthy for your own well being as well as for those around you.

Here are a few ways that you can stop worrying about your financial concerns:

1Take Action if it is Something You Can Control

If you are worried about finances and it is something you have control over, then come up with a plan for taking action.

The process of taking action will help you to feel better about your situation and give you the confidence to take control.

For example, if you are worrying about money and paying the bills but you know that there are areas where you could cut back on spending, then sit down and plan a strategy for saving money and then stick to it.

Although this may sound like a “no brainer” there are many people who work themselves into that vicious cycle of worrying about money; however, they never change anything and keep going around in the same circles. Somewhere along the line you have to jump off that treadmill and take action so you can get some sleep at night and start enjoying your life more.

2Set Aside Time For Money

Set a specific time aside each month to deal with money. If you take the time to reconcile the books and pay the bills you will not have to worry about forgetting to pay a bill and you will be better in tune with your finances. Sometimes, just the thought of not knowing can cause you to worry. If you stay in touch with where you stand financially this can relieve a lot of undue stress and worry that you may be placing on yourself.

3Decide on What Is Rational vs. Irrational

Everyone has rational worries as well as irrational worries (which are never going to happen). Your mind can play a lot of tricks on you so keep track of all of the worries that are going through your mind and write them down.

Over a period of time make note of the things that you worried about that never happened. Looking at your list to see the items you spend time worrying about that never happened will help you to "let them go" in the future.

4Don't Worry About Things You Cannot Control

We all want to have control of all aspects of our lives but realistically, that is not possible. So if you are worried about losing your job or things of that nature, try to put them out of your mind. At most you can try to set aside a few months of bills to protect yourself if you are worried about losing your job to help alleviate your worries.Plan as much as you can to help relieve stress and worrying and then live your life to the fullest.

5Decide How Much is Related to Anxiety

Keep track of how much you worry in general and write it down. If you worry excessively about a lot of things this could be related to an anxiety disorder.

Try getting out, exercising more and eating right and see if this helps the situation.

If you are still worrying about a lot of different things in addition to finances, you may want to pay a visit to your mental health professional.

It does not mean that you are crazy; it may simply mean that you need medical assistance to help relieve the anxiety. It has been proven that anxiety and worrying is related to chemical disorders in the brain and can easily be relieved with medications or natural means such as through meditation.

6Downsize Your Life

If you are constantly worrying about finances it may be because your life has gotten way too complicated with too many materialistic items. Decide where and how you can simplify your life and discard any material possessions you do not really need, consolidate high interest loans and credit cards, and start living life on your own terms.

7Consider Alternatives and Decide

If you are trying to solve some financial worries, identify what they are, consider the alternatives, and then make a decision about what you want to do. Once you have made the decision, do not spend your time worrying if some of the other alternatives may have been better. Instead live your life in the present and keep moving forward instead of backward.

8Focus on All of the Positives

When you worry about finances you tend to forget what you have. Stop and take note of all of the positive things that are happening in your life and everything that you have to date. This does not mean counting all of your material possessions because these are not the things that make you happy. Count your blessings such as family, friends, the home you live in, the life you have built for yourself, etc., and this will help you put things into perspective when it comes to finances.

9Develop a Way to Make More Money

The number of people that are earning money from home is rapidly increasing thanks to eCommerce and the Internet. There are countless ways that you can earn extra money online without having to be really tech savvy. Although this may seem like a much harder solution to alleviating your worries about money, you may get enjoyment out of it if you do something related to a hobby.

10Realize the Conditioning and then "Uncondition" Yourself to Worrying

For most of us we are told to worry from the time we enter this world. Although our parents want what is best for us in a way they also condition us to worry.

Statements like "You better start worrying about getting a summer job.", "You better start worrying about where you want to go to college.", "You better start worrying about earning a living.", "You better find a job with benefits or you will have to worry about retirement."...the list goes on and on. No wonder we worry a lot when we are adults.

Be aware of this and work to unlearn some of the habits you were taught at an early age. After all, when was the last time you heard a parent say, "Go out there, take calculated risks and go for your dreams!" instead of saying "Be careful out there." You only get to live your life once so work to reduce your worries and go for the life of your dreams.
