Fun Game Ideas

In the current economic environment families are turning towards finding more affordable and free, fun games to play to keep the expenses low and the levels of fun high! Luckily there are copious numbers of fun and free games that can keep every member of your family entertained!

1Indoor Games for Kids

Despite what commercials tell you, your kids don’t need to be immersed in the latest gaming console in order to have extreme fun with each other, their friends, and with you. There are many fun games to play that do not involve technology at all!

  • One of the most timeless fun games to play is to create paper dolls with the girls in your family! Far more affordable than the dress-up plastic dolls, paper dolls can allow your children’s imaginations to run wild as they create unique outfits for their dolls; and, with your help, create a paper house and paper cars! Many websites, like funorama.com, offer free printable paper dolls that are certain to provide you and your girls with hours of fun! On a rainy day why not print out several dolls, cars, and outfits and let your imaginations soar!

  • Simon Says is one of the best in fun games to play with kids! In this classic game a person leading the game tells those playing the game to perform actions. The goal of the game is to only perform the actions that the game leader starts with “Simon Says!” For example, when you say “Simon says touch your nose” those playing the game should touch their nose; however, if you tell them “Touch your nose” they should not touch their nose! If they do then they’re out of the game until the next round starts! Simon Says is a fantastic game for children of all ages, especially kids under the age of 10!

  • Battleship is a classic game that can be played with nothing more than a piece of graph paper and two pencils! Each player draws two grids (smaller grids are best if you are playing with a younger child); the grids should be labeled with letters across the top of them and numbers down the left hand side of the grid. One grid is yours; the other is your opponents! Decide now where you place your ships and mark them on your grid, a 5-block battleship, a 3-block battle cruiser, a 2-block submarine – or any combo that you both agree to! It is important that you both have the same number of boats/ships! Take turns calling out coordinates to your opponent, if you land on one that is a section of a boat – you say “Hit!” The object of the game is to sink your opponent’s battleship before he sinks yours!

  • For a bit of extra fun on a rainy day consider using cardboard from cereal boxes, a glue stick, and a set of markers to create your very own deck of cards! This fun project can not only keep your kids occupied for a good length of time but it will also offer a great opportunity to introduce them to a host of card games like “Go Fish” or even poker!

2Fun Game Ideas – Party Games!

There are many fun party games, whether your party is for the under 12 set or the over 21 set! Free games that are fun and can inspire fits of giggles are an excellent method of keeping your party guests entertained!

  • Charades is an entertaining word guessing game where one player acts out a given word or a phrase, often by acting out words that sound similar! For example: for the word cat, the person acting out the word could demonstrate that the word sounds like hat and perhaps then act out cat ears or mimic a cat grooming itself! As the game progresses the words could also progress towards being more difficult to act out!

  • Twenty Questions is a fun guessing game where the people playing attempt to identify a person, a place, or an object by asking twenty questions or less. The item should be something that is easy for those playing to guess – the game will rapidly turn into a boring and frustrating game for all playing if it proves near impossible for the players to guess the item!

3Fun Game Ideas for Road Trips!

Spending an extended amount of time in a car with kids can rapidly turn into a miserable road trip for the whole family without a good number of entertaining games that are fun for everyone in the car!

  • I Spy

I Spy is one of best known in time-tested and time-honored entertaining kids games in the world! One person selects an object for the other people in the car to guess – the only clue that they offer is in the form of “I spy with my little eye, something that begins with…” – they then either insert the first letter of the object or the color of the object. The person who guesses correctly gets to play next! Be sure to remind your kids not to select a tree or a car that you pass as it can be difficult for everyone else in the car to guess if they no longer see the item!

  • Slug Big

The idea behind this game is for players to keep count of the number of Volkswagen Beetles that they spy driving on the roads. While the original roots of this game call for the person who spies the Beetle to punch the person sitting next to them and announce “Slug Bug!” – you may find that any game incorporating hitting can quickly get out of hand. Consider having your kids keep count another way – on their fingers perhaps. Let the winner pick where you all eat lunch or dinner!

  • Tunnel Game!

When you come to a tunnel or drive under a bridge, the object of the game is to hold your breath until you pop out on the other side of the tunnel. As the driver of the car, this may not be the best game for you to play along with! However, your kids are sure to delight in their abilities (or their sibling’s inability) to hold their breath!

There are dozens of wonderful and fun games that can be played for free; with your imagination as your primary game piece, you are sure to find it a snap to entertain yourself, your kids, or guests at your party!
