Although it sometimes doesn’t seem like it, there are a lot of things that are more important than money. Learn about a few of them to help you with perspective during these tough times.
Sometimes, it really seems like money is the only thing that matters. We put all of our attention and effort into working extra hours, not getting enough sleep, skipping lunches and even missing family functions in order to make more money and advance our careers. Then the weekend comes and instead of relaxing with our families, we spend even more time working. Then, when you add to that all of the additional stress that that has been put upon us due to the struggling economy, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that you need to work more because all that matters is how much extra money you can make.
It seems like the sacrifice is worth it because of the extra money and financial security you are working toward, but that is only true when the other parts of your life are in order.
Since most of us are struggling with money these days, we thought it would be a good time to talk a little about perspective.
1The Importance of Health
There probably isn’t anything more important than your health. This is something that you have probably heard before and you agree “in theory” with it.
However, it probably doesn’t really mean something to you until you or someone you love begins to struggle with their health.
Yes, sometimes money can buy better health care, but there are still many times when it doesn’t matter how much money you have. Sometimes the health problem can’t be cured or even treated. If someone you love has a serious illness, and the doctors can no longer help them, does it really matter how much money you have?
2Protect Your Health
If you lose your health and develop a chronic health problem, it will affect every aspect of your life. There is also the chance that your health problems will actually prevent you from working to earn a living.
You should do everything possible to protect your health, even if this will cost you the extra overtime income that your budget has gotten used to. Once you lose it, you can’t get it back.
3Happiness
It sounds like a cliché, but money really doesn’t buy happiness. Many times, in the pursuit of more money, you end up sacrificing the things that will make you happy.
Things like spending time with your family, making the effort to remain in contact with close friends and taking time out for yourself every now and then are important.
Money may be one of the tools that you use to make life easier and provide the lifestyle that you want to live, but it’s never the source of happiness. Instead of focusing on money, shift your focus to making sure you are happy.
4Summary
Yes, it is important to have enough money to live on and to plan for your financial future. However, if you’re struggling with your finances, but you and your family are all healthy and happy, you’re in pretty good shape!
