Five Ways to Successfully Promote and Market Yourself

How to Successfully Promote Yourself

Regardless of whether you are seeking employment or promoting your online business the more you successfully promote and market yourself the better your chances are of getting offered interesting work or increasing revenues for your online business.

To do this you must have the knowledge necessary to make yourself stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Although making yourself stand out in the crowd is never an easy task, you would be surprised at how many people have the skills and personality necessary to become successful.  However, they never reach their potential simply because they lack the “know how” for marketing themselves.
Acquiring the knowledge for marketing yourself will do a whole lot more for you than furthering your education, making your resume longer, or anything else that you may think will help you get ahead. While some of these things are important, they do not mean a thing if you do not know how to promote and market yourself.
Think about the people who are currently making more money then you and are known by a lot of people. They did not get there because they are smarter than you; they got there because they know how to market themselves. Many people who do not even have a high school diploma have become successful by simply knowing the ropes for marketing. Here are a few ways to successfully promote and market yourself to ensure you get the most out of your life and your work:

1Start Immediately

Getting others to notice your skills takes time and effort along with a plan so it is important to begin right away.

Come up with the tools you want to use to market yourself.

For example, perhaps you want to start a social networking page on a site like Facebook and join some professional groups on the site which are related to your industry.

Many people have found employment this way and have promoted their businesses successfully using this method. Maybe you want to start a blog to start getting your skills noticed or write content related to your industry and post it online. Whatever you decide to do it must include a plan along with strategies for achieving your goals with each online or offline marketing tool you use.

2Market Your Skills

People are not interested in hearing about your resume or how great you think your skills may be. Instead they want to know how your skills can benefit others so you have to show them. Marketing your skills does not mean going around telling people about everything you have done. This will backfire on you because people will tune you out, not to mention that you will bore them in the process.

When you market your skills you offer your exceptional talents in the form of knowledge that others find beneficial. If you own an online business your income will grow if you offer quality information to others. If you are seeking employment in your industry of expertise, market your skills by offering your knowledge to help others and employers will begin to take notice and invite you on an interview.
This is far more effective than submitting your resume and having it end up in a pile of hundreds of others or simply pushing your product for your online business.
People often confuse marketing with selling and the two concepts are completely different. You must first give to others by marketing your skills and only then will you reap the benefits of eventually selling your product.

3Exceptional Skills Call for Exceptional Marketing

Let’s say you decide to market your skills by setting up a blog. Okay, well everyone is setting up a blog so simply running a blog is not considered marketing your skills. It is what you do with the content you write in the blog that makes you stand out from the pack. If you offer exceptional and useful information and wait for your blog to get noticed what do you think will happen? Not much.

Instead you have to reach out to others by networking on other sites and pointing people to the content in your blog. You can also reach out to others by sharing your content when appropriate during social networking conversations or through email. If you want to make a face to face impact you can offer your content in the form of videos. If you do this on a consistent basis people will begin to see you as the “go to” person and over time you will start getting offers from employers or, if you own a business, people will become interested in buying your product.

4Determine Your Unique Selling Proposition

Although a Unique Selling Proposition (USP) is usually part of the business marketing plan, you can also use one when you are searching for employment.

If you own a business, your Unique Selling Proposition is what makes your business stand out from all of the rest and gives you the edge over your competition.

The same idea rings true if you are looking for employment. You must decide what is unique about your skills and then use it as a Unique Selling Proposition when you market your skills. If you offer unique knowledge this will make an impression on others and they will remember you and return for more good information. It works for business and it works when you are seeking employment.

5Exemplify Enthusiasm in All of Your Networking Efforts

You have heard the old saying that “Enthusiasm is contagious!” Well this is very true when you offer your expertise to others. If you love what you do, this will rub off on others and they will share your excitement as well. If you are enthusiastic about your industry of expertise, this will radiate to potential employers regardless if you are offering your knowledge online or elsewhere.
