Did you ever encounter a situation where you felt this twisting in your gut that was trying to tell you something is amiss? Did you find that when you ignored the feeling it resulted in a bad decision? This is what we call intuition and it is that gut feeling that helps you to make the right decisions. The problem is that sometimes you tend to deny that the feeling is there or you do not understand what it is to begin with. This is okay because a lot of people experience this dilemma. 1How Intuition WorksWhether you are aware of it or not your intuition sends you messages every day of your life. The problem is you know the feeling is there but it appears you have no evidence to substantiate the fact that you are feeling a certain way. For example, one day you are getting ready to cross the street and something inside of you tells you to wait; however, you cannot understand why you should not cross the street. Let’s say you listen to your intuition and do not cross the street. Moments later there is an accident right where you were going to cross the street. That’s intuition. Now if you would have ignored your intuition you would have wound up in a much different place. This is what happens to people when they don’t pay attention to their intuition. If you talk to people who do listen to their intuition they will tell you that the times they denied their intuition, they made a wrong decision and it cost them dearly. If this happens enough times you learn to trust and listen to your intuition. Sometimes intuition will try to send you signals and other times it will be your best friend that guards you from danger as described above. For example, instead of a dangerous type of situation, let’s consider another scenario. Let’s say you are thinking about buying a specific brand of car and your intuition is telling you that you need a car. The brand you are interested in you begin to see everywhere you go, in newspapers and on the Internet. Then you meet up with a friend that happens to tell you about a positive experience someone they know had with that brand of car. Your friend didn’t know you were interested in that particular brand so it seems like a coincidence. The next thing you know you stumble across an incredible deal on that specific brand of car from an advertisement that seemed to magically appear in front of you. That’s intuition. 2How to Develop and Trust Your IntuitionIt can be difficult to develop and trust your intuition especially if your feelings were discounted at an early stage in your life. This conditions you to deny what you are really feeling and this includes your intuition. If this is the case, you can learn to develop and trust your intuition even when others are telling you, “Oh, you’re not really feeling that. Let’s do it anyway” yet you are still feeling like you are heading in the wrong direction.
If you practice these steps on a regular basis, after a while you will begin to develop and trust your intuition. You will know when this happens because you will no longer wonder about the outcome of a particular situation if you had not had faith in your intuition. You will know underneath that you made the decision which is best for you and you will not need any reassurance if external influences told you differently.
The other thing you must realize is that you cannot control everything, however it is human nature to want to. There are times where you must loosen your grasp and let things run their course until you find the right answer. The nice part is when you do find the answer your intuition will tell you so.
