Best Resources for Finding Vacation Rental Properties

Vacation House Rentals

Renting a vacation house is an excellent alternative to staying in a hotel; not only are you afforded a lot more privacy by renting a vacation property, but you are also afforded many of the comforts of home that the majority of hotels simply cannot provide you.

Finding the best vacation house to suit your unique requirements can be a bit tricky without a fair amount of research!

1Why Choose Vacation House Rentals

Perhaps one of the best benefits to choosing a vacation house over a hotel is that you can often find a rental home for a drastically lower price than a hotel in the same city would cost you. With a budget savings of up to 70%, why wouldn’t you opt for a rental property!

  • Extra Space

For half the price of a hotel suite, a vacation rental property can offer you a minimum of three times the space that you would get in a hotel suite. Your family will be able to better enjoy their vacation with the ability to stretch out and seek a bit of privacy every now and then.

  • Privacy

There is no doubt that one of the best parts of a vacation house is that you are afforded a much higher level of privacy.

  • Dining Perks

While we all love the luxury of eating in a restaurant - no cooking and no cleanup! - it can turn into an incredibly expensive part of your vacation to be constantly dining in restaurants. The majority of vacation rental houses are equipped with a full kitchen and a dining area so that you can prepare many of your meals yourself and save a fair amount of money.

  • Pets are Welcome

There are very few hotel chains that allow pets; those that do often carry a breed and weight restriction. Many vacation house rentals will allow pets on their property; however, remember to be a responsible pet owner and ensure that no traces of your pets remain after you leave!

  • Family Travel

If you plan on spending your vacation with your extended family then it would be incredibly beneficial, and not to mention budget-friendly, to rent a vacation property instead of a hotel. Not only will it be much easier to spend time together with your family but you will also be able to enjoy staying up late at night reminiscing without disturbing other hotel guests.

2Resources to Use to Find Vacation House Rentals

For vacation planners there are near endless resources to help you plan either a romantic retreat or a family get-away. Following are some vacation rental websites to help get you started...

  • VRBO – Vacation Rentals By Owner

If you are looking for an outstanding source of vacation rental property information, then look no further than VRBO. This website was founded by owners of vacation properties so that they could effectively manage the properties. VRBO makes it an incredibly easy process for property owners to list their vacation properties, and makes it just as easy for travelers to search for a vacation rental in just about any country in the world.

  • Beachhouse.Com

If you are looking for a beach house for your next vacation, visit beachhouse.com for an owner-updated and maintained listing website that offers nothing but vacation rentals on the beach. From the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico to the Bahamas and Newport Beach in California, you will find a comprehensive database of vacation rental properties. Each listing is complete with photographs so you will know exactly what your vacation rental property will look like before you arrive at your destination!

  • European Vacation Rentals

If you and your family have your sights set further abroad, consider a visit to europeanhomerentals.com to locate cottages and villas in Italy, France, England, Scotland, Ireland, and even Spain! A vacation rental property in one of these wonderful European destinations will provide you with the ability to explore as much of your surrounding areas as possible. If you have family or friends in the area that you are visiting it will that much easier to host them in your vacation home for a home-cooked meal than in a hotel.

  • Paradise Properties By Owner

This website is similar in style to the others listed; however, it also offers listings for vacation properties that are for sale. Visit PPBO to view the owner listed properties that are available in locations such as India, Costa Rica, Greece, Hawaii, Mexico and even Israel.

  • Craigslist

Don’t forget that the ever-popular Craigslist offers more than a place to buy a used lawnmower from someone in your town. Craigslist also offers a section for listing vacation rental properties.

3Safety First

It is important that you do extensive and careful research on any vacation house rentals that catch your eye. It is entirely too easy for an unscrupulous person to take advantage of your desire to rent a vacation property at a good rate.

  • Try to rent your vacation property from a reliable source, either a rental management company or an individual who may be able to provide you with references from previous guests.

  • Ask to see additional pictures of the properties that you are interested in so that you can ensure that the property has all of the features and amenities that you are looking for.

  • Be sure to ask about any security deposit that may be required, and find out how long you should expect to have to wait to receive your security deposit back after you return from your vacation.

  • If the rental management company is located in the US consider researching them on the Better Business Bureau’s website so that you can see if there are any complaints lodged against them.

  • If at all possible, try to avoid sharing your credit card details until you have a signed vacation property rental agreement in your hands; this does not provide 100% protection against having your credit card information compromised but it may offer you a small amount of security.

Your family vacation, or your romantic get-away, is sure to be an absolutely enjoyable time! Remember, at all times, to respect the property that you are renting; not only will it ensure the return of your security deposit, but it is just the right thing to do!
